Passenger MagRail Booster
a smart magnetic upgrade for better passenger services

Passenger MagRail Booster, a part of the MagRail product portfolio, is the world’s first retrofit solution for existing passenger trains that uses an electromagnetic propulsion with a linear motor and allows for smart applications to enhance passenger services on rails.

A magnetic propulsion upgrade to today’s passenger services.

Smart integration into a hybrid propulsion mode – having the loco in charge, but with new capabilities.

Retrofit upgrade of rolling stock.
Zero emissions.
No new tracks required.

Enhanced passenger services – coming soon.

The solution

Passenger MR Booster retrofits existing trainsets with linear motor technology, turning them first into hybrid propelled units. They can run on conventional tracks just with classic traction, but turn into MagRail Booster mode, when required.

Later then to infra-driven, self-propelled vehicles.

State-of-play

Passenger MagRail Booster is in development and preparation for commercial start

  • Evaluations with major railways are already ongoing
  • Tech development is a derivate to Cargo MagRail Booster

Stepwise approach

MagRail Booster is applicable to any railway network. For the start we plan to do hybrid propulsion mode and later self-propelled vehicles.

Sustainability

A solution that supports global efforts to cut transport-related CO₂ emissions and transforms existing infrastructure into a high-performance passenger network.

Features & Applications

Nevomo’s Passenger MagRail Booster solutions will be implemented in stages:

1

Rural lines

Equipped trains
performing hybrid
propulsion operations

Applications:

  • Electrification of lines
    with issues in
    classic electrifications
    (e.g. tunnels)
  • Usable for lightweight
    battery trains,
    e.g. for line reactivations
    (Push & Glide principle)

Benefits:

  • Electrification of passenger services

2

Open network

Additional traction
force in addition
to the train traction

Applications:

  • Automated
    precise
    stopping
    at platforms
  • Faster acceleration/
