MagRail Booster
MagRail Booster, part of the MagRail product portfolio, is the world’s first retrofit solution for existing rail infrastructure and vehicles that uses an electromagnetic propulsion with a linear motor and allows each wagon to move independently without a locomotive.
It has been developed to improve existing rail services allowing traffic automation and infrastructure electrification with greater flexibility, higher frequency of operations, greater capacity, and enhanced dynamics.
The technology consists of the following components:
Energy and Power Electronics
– supplies the linear motor with electrical power
Command and Control System
– monitors and controls the system
- ensures safety of operations
- connects with the system operator
Linear motor
– provides direct drive and braking force for the wagons
Vehicles
- wagons equipped with MagRail Booster components
can be controlled separately without locomotive
Rail infrastructure
– existing rail tracks used for MagRail Booster guidance

MagRail
Based on the same propulsion system as MagRail Booster, MagRail adds levitation capabilities to the network. Nevomo’s MagRail levitation technology uses magnetic forces to lift and guide trains above existing tracks without physical contact, reducing friction and enabling smooth, high-speed travel. This breakthrough allows magnetic levitation to work on conventional rail lines—no new infrastructure needed.
Nevomo’s MagRail uses passive magnetic levitation, allowing trains to float above the rails without active power on the infrastructure side. This makes it possible to run on existing tracks—using wheels for starting, stopping, and navigating switches and stations—ensuring full compatibility with today’s rail systems while enabling high-speed, low-friction travel.
